Water and its contaminants
Target & Application
Increasing awarnes
According to world health organization (WHO) 80% diseases are water borne. Drinking water in various countries does not meet WHO standards. Indeed, 3.1% deaths are known to occur due to the unhygienic and poor quality of water.
The three main causes of water pollution are leaking landfills, industrial waste, and sewage. The main target of the SUNFLOAT project is to improve the quality of life of people that lack access to safely managed drinking water, by offering a simple and inexpensive device for water decontamination.
SUNFLOAT aims at increasing the awareness of key target groups, such as the public administration and private sector, about the socio-economic impact of water treatment for remote communities and about the role that sunlight can play in this respect thanks to photocatalysis.
Moreover, SUNFLOAT wants to stimulate investments on photocatalysis also by the private sector, developing proof of concept devices, which can demonstrate in real-life applications the huge potential of photocatalytic technologies for water treatment in remote locations.
